I was hoping to go with a moroccan style print similar to this one over a Pudel-Design, but my method wasn't the greatest and it was a big no-go.
Here we are 2 1/2 months later, and the rug still sits out in our garage awaiting its fate. Luckily, it's identical on both sides, so I have a second chance and a clean slate! It seems that no matter what pattern you choose, the measuring and taping is more complicated than you think it will be. I've debated doing a zig-zag pattern like the one below from Urban Outfitters or
Then yesterday I found this post and knew immediately that was what I wanted to do. If I'm going to take the time to measure and tape, I might as well go big! If you read the step-by-step, it actually doesn't look too hard and I love that the pattern is more unique than the others I was considering. I'm going to attempt the taping today and the painting later in the week, and of course I'll post pictures when I'm finished.
Have you ever attempted to paint a rug? What are you favorite sources for inexpensive rugs?

Ok, I can't wait to see how this turns out because I want to do it but am scared. I had good luck free-taping a design on canvas so something like that could be cool too, and not obvious if you mess up.
ReplyDeleteHowever, one thing I learned about painting is that you have to seal your tape lines with the base color (which I did not do) or it will bleed. Good luck!
That is a good tip about sealing the tape lines, I didn't think of that! I keep putting it off because I'm so nervous :)
DeleteOooo I can't wait to see what you do! I'm too scared to paint a rug, but I do love that Urban Outfitters chevron rug! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea you could paint a rug. I would have NEVER thought of that... the options are endless though, you can get seriously creative with this!
