Look, Ma! Lettuce!

Look - I grew something! See that liiiiitle green part? It's the beginning of some tasty, tasty lettuce. We just planted the seeds Friday and these guys were popping up by Tuesday. This is the first year I've ever done a flower and vegetable garden on my own, so this is indeed very exciting. More to come!

Unofficially Summer

It's nice to be home after a long holiday weekend of traveling and camping. I feel great (staring at a campfire for hours does wonders), but I'm also excited to relax at home for a few weeks. Since our move last month it's been non-stop unpacking, travel, unpacking from travel, etc.

Now that summer has officially started I'm excited for a lot of things, but here are the ones at the top: BBQs, a healthy tan on my pasty skin, sandals, popsicles, sunglasses, colorful clothes, long evening walks and food from my garden (hopefully!).

What about you, what are you looking forward to this summer?

Friday Finds & Favorites 05.25.2012

Hooray for a three day weekend! We're going back to Eugene for the weekend to visit our very good friends' baby (born 36 hours after we left town!) and a short camping trip for another friend's birthday. I can't wait to spend some time outdoors and to see everyone!

What are your Memorial Day weekend plans?

// In white or navy please and thank you.

// I could spend hours looking at Olivia's pictures.

// Facebook's campus looks awesome.

On Repeat

Yesterday I listened to the Kimbra Pandora station all day and it was the perfect Wednesday music. This is one of my favorites.

Happy Birthday, Chase!

Happy birthday to my wonderful husband!
The big 2-8!
Hooray!

Loving Lately

From time to time, I like to share a few things I'm currently obsessed with, so here is what I'm loving lately:

iPad - I've always wanted one but could never justify the purchase. Recently I was lucky enough to get one for work and I love it. So far I've just used it for work and a few of the basic apps (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), but I'd love to know the apps that you all can't live without -- let me know in the comments! I've never used any sort of e-reader and I'm a bit hesitant to go paper free, but I'm going to download a book tonight and test it out.

Coconut Water - I wasn't even sure that I even liked coconuts themselves until last year. It was one of those things that you just assumed you didn't like but had never even really given a chance. Anyone done that before? Turns out coconuts are delicious as is coconut water! I really like O.N.E. and the mango and pink guava are my favorites. They are especially nice to have on hand after you've, ahem, "celebrated" the night before.

Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk - This one has been in my fridge for a while, but I still want to share it. Drinking milk and eating ice cream always make my tummy pretty unhappy, and I have self-diagnosed myself as slightly lactose. Sadly, I didn't realize this until a few years ago and just thought that feeling was normal (what!? I know, right?). Once I came to my senses I tried to find a milk alternative. Lactose-free milk was way too sweet, so on a whim I tried almond milk last year. Not only is it good to drink and high in calcium, but it's delicious in my morning coffee, too.

Feels Like Summer: Weekend In Pictures

This was the first weekend that truly felt like summer around here. Friday I drove to Seattle to pick Chase up from the airport and if I wasn't driving solo, I'd have taken pictures of the amazing views over Snoqualmie Pass. Imagine lots of sunshine and huge mountains still covered in snow. On the way back we stopped at a burger joint in North Bend where I had a marshmallow shake. I don't see them often, so I always get them when I do!

Saturday was all about getting the back yard in shape and we planted more flowers and made our raised vegetable garden bed. We were also supposed to plant this weekend, but lost steam with all the other stuff we had going on. It's getting warm here, so we'll want to get stuff in the ground soon!

Overall a great weekend! Now I'm off to watch Casablanca, checking off part of #2 from my list!

Friday Finds & Favorites 05.19.2012

I unintentionally took the last week off, but I'm back! I was in Boston for a work event and had planned to get some posts scheduled ahead of time. No dice.

Even though I was only there for a week, I had a great time and loved Boston! I'd only been in the winter of 2011 for 48 hours during that crazy Snowmageddon they had, so it was nice to see it in the sunshine. We stayed in the Back Bay and were really close to some great stores and restaurants. I was working most of the time, so I didn't get to check out as much as I would have liked, but what I saw was lovely and I can't wait to go back.

I'll be back to posting regularly next week, but until then, here are a few things from around the web to send you into your weekend:

// Just awesome.

// Trick yourself into being awesome.

// More time isn't always the answer. Do what you can, when you can.

// Continuing my spiral into a crazy dog lady

Weekend in Pictures

05.06.2012

I can't believe it's Monday already! I was hoping for a calmer weekend since this is our last time off together for a few weeks (we both have business trips in the next 10 days), but even as busy as it was - it was an awesome weekend. The weather was gorgeous and I couldn't be more excited for sunny days ahead (it's supposed to be in the 80's this week!). Saturday I made a quick trip to visit Chase at work with coffee and donuts, went to a quilt show with my mom, did some flower shopping (we saw a BLUE orchid!), then a Cinco de Mayo dinner/fundraiser downtown. Sunday we slept in (kind of), did some yard work and went shopping where I found this Gap dress on clearance for $13.

It's been sold out online for weeks and I've never seen it in stores except for today. We also checked out Target, and I was particularly excited to check out The Shops (small boutiques that Target was featuring), but was not impressed. They all seem like really neat boutiques, but I don't think that they brought their A-game to my beloved Target.

How was your weekend? Have you been able to spend sometime enjoying gorgeous weather?

Friday Finds & Favorites 05.04.12

Can you believe it's May already? Not only that, but it's four days into it! Are you doing anything fun this weekend? We have a Cinco de Mayo dinner tomorrow, and my mom and I are going to a quilt show. Those are our only set weekend plans and I couldn't be happier. I'm hoping to plant all the flowers I bought last week and start setting up our patio. I'm becoming quite obsessed with our garden. Well, the idea of it. I have yet to actually plant anything (minor detail). But I've purchased flowers and that's half-way there, no?

// I've said it a few times on Twitter already, but this is by far the best thing I've read in a while. I particularly liked Erin's post in response and I'm excited to see what other's say.

// You have to be able to laugh at yourself which is why Picturesless Pinterest is so funny.

// I want to make a hybrid of this table and this table, but with taller legs. Correction - I want to watch Chase make it so I can paint it a pretty color.

// Bed cartography. Funny because my husband would say it's true. Totally isn't, by the way.

// The world's most patient dog.

Minoux Jewelry

For the longest time I was into pretty chunky jewelry, but lately I've been into the really delicate stuff. I think Minoux is one of my favorites and do simple really well. They're pieces are simple and on trend, but also pretty timeless. I think that simple bar at the bottom is my favorite. What about you?

Mod Color

If you haven't heard, I am in love with Mad Men. I started watching the series about a month ago and am almost up to date! I absolutely love the storyline of the show, but I also spend at least half of each episode drooling over the sets. My own home is decorated a more classic than modern, but I love to add bits and pieces to freshen up the look.

The room below is obviously HEAVY on the mid-century modern, and I could never commit to it in my house. I think the all-out look can work in some spaces, but in my opinion, it's often overdone in many hipster houses. That aside, I love the board below! The colors are fun, the clean lines are pleasing to the eye and it reminds me Betty Draper on acid.
